About
Catherine Palmer, MS LPC LMHC MFT

Counseling is such a transformative process, which is why I love what I do. I know that many people are not satisfied with how they’re experiencing life and relationships. Mental health counseling can help make things profoundly better, and I’m so honored to be able to be a part of that process.
We all deserve a full, authentic and empowered life. I help treat anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, relationship problems of all types, divorce, life transitions, codependency, behavioral problems, grief and loss, and general life dissatisfaction or confusion.
My counseling approach is collaborative and compassionate – I truly care. But, I will also challenge you to examine who you are, what you do, why you do it, what you want to do/be, what is holding you back or disempowering you, and what you need to do to make a change, if necessary. The counseling process can help you rewire your brain and reshape your nervous system in a much healthier, more adaptive way. I’m experienced with safely guiding this process.
My Masters degree is from Portland State University, with a specialty in Marital, Couple and Family Therapy. I’m trained in the Gottman Method of relationship counseling, EMDR, and Interpersonal Neurobiology. Additionally, I have long term training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples, Emotionally Focused Therapy for individuals, and Internal Family Systems. I also have a Ph.D in biology and I taught science at the University level for nearly 20 years. My knowledge of psychology and biology complement one another to give me unique skills as a counselor.
It brings me great satisfaction to be able to help others make permanent positive changes in their lives and in their relationships. I grow and learn from each of my clients and have the utmost respect and admiration for their courage and commitment to heal.
In my spare time I enjoy reading, hiking in this beautiful state of ours, and spending time with my family, friends, and dogs. I’m a dedicated advocate of the disempowered and vulnerable and donate a percentage of every session to help protect and defend them (with a focus on animals, children and the environment).
